Terms & Conditions

Terms & Conditions

  1. All lessons will start and finish at your selected location, as requested when booking.
  2. You must bring your current physical licence (not a digital or photocopied version), corrective eye wear (if required as a condition on your licence) and appropriate shoes to every lesson.
  3. If using your own vehicle, you must ensure it has a valid registration and Warrant of Fitness. It must be up to WOF standard at the time of the lesson, (i.e. all lights and indicators must work) and have appropriate insurance cover. Note: Safe Travels Driving School or the Driving School instructor in the student’s vehicle will not be liable for any damage, costs, excess insurance fees or fines resulting from any accident or traffic offence that might occur during the period of instruction whilst the student is driving the vehicle.
  4. Any student taking lessons in their own BEV (Battery electric vehicles) or PHEV (Plug-in petrol hybrid vehicle), must ensure that their vehicle has a current RUC licence. If the current odometer reading is more than the maximum distance shown on the RUC label (including mileage needed for the lesson), then the lesson will be forfeit and you may be charged a cancellation fee.
  5. Failure to meet any of the requirements above will result in you forfeiting the lesson, and may incur a cancellation fee of $40.
  6. If any student uses abusive language or engages in disrespectful behaviour towards the driving instructor, other road users or pedestrians, the instructor has the right to stop the lesson, and the student may be stopped from taking any future lessons.
  7. Lessons for new clients will be conducted in the instructor’s dual control vehicle for safety reasons. A support person is welcome to accompany you for the lesson.
  8. Safe Travels Driving School is not obliged to give you use of our car for your practical test if we feel you are not ready. Nor do we guarantee its availability at the time of your test, unless previously agreed upon. Please have a conversation with us before you book.
  9. Very occasionally, instructors can become ill at short notice. In the event of this happening, we will endeavour to find you a suitable instructor, but cannot guarantee anything at such short notice.
  10. In the event that you (the pupil) damage the car during the driving test, where the total repair cost is less than the instructor’s insurance excess, you will be required to pay for the damages to the car.

Cancellation Policy

  1. You are required to give a minimum of 24 hours’ notice to your instructor should you wish to cancel a lesson. Any no-show or failure to show after 15mins past the lesson start time, and your instructor is entitled to charge you the full lesson rate.
  2. Safe Travels Driving School cannot be responsible for any lesson/test cancellations due to a mechanical breakdown. Our instruction vehicle is regularly serviced, so this is unlikely, but in such an event, we will endeavour to find a replacement vehicle for you as soon as possible, but this is not guaranteed.
  3. In the unlikely event that you are not fully satisfied with a recent driving lesson with us, please inform us of the reasons via email. Our customer service manager will look at your email and contact you as soon as possible.

Safe Travels treats your personal information in accordance with the NZTA regulations and guidelines, ensuring your information is kept under strict confidentiality and security, during tuition and for 12 months after your last lesson, at which time it will be securely destroyed.

We also follow NZTA Waka Kotahi guidelines while conducting driving lessons and preparing you for your driving test, in that we will not drive along the exact route as used by your assessing officer. This is for your benefit and will not affect your chances of passing your test, as we will ensure you will be well equipped with all the skills and knowledge you need.

By signing up for lessons with Safe Travels Driving School, you agree to abide by these terms and conditions.
